Here at the 360 Health Hub East Kilbride, our Chiropractors are always looking for ways to help the body. The body is a design marvel and it’s important to look at your bodies through eyes of love, it does so much for us despite the nonsense we throw at it. It really is amazing and as humans, we understand a lot of it, however, there is still much more to learn. The learning, I believe comes in understanding and appreciating the close symbiotic relationship the body has and needs with the environment. Nature has shaped and sculpted our bodies through time. Nature is still giving, you just need to listen.
Our journey last week arrived at Health Booster- Salt Cave Halotherapy, here in East Kilbride.
What is Halotherapy? It is a therapy that involves breathing within a cave where natural salts are present. Natural salts are inhaled from the environment directly or through aerosolized salt to enhance breathing and respiratory health.
Health benefits:
The health benefits of halotherapy are said to be
- Clearing up mucus for your airways
- Antibacterial, helping prevent infections
- Anti inflammatory
- Immunity boosting
- Anti allergic
On arriving at the car park in the technology park myself, it was easy to find and both myself and Jenni were intrigued by all the businesses around the technology park. It is always a great joy to see small businesses doing so well in East Kilbride.
The Health Booster LTD was easy to navigate. On entering, the reception area was bright and very welcoming. We were met by Niky. Niky was there with a warm hello and made us feel very comfortable. After a lovely chat with Niki about her journey to opening up Health Booster LTD she invited us to have a tour of the premises.
We were first introduced to the private salt cave area, which are used for a more personal experience. There are three private salt caves all filled with Himalayan and sea salt with an aerosolized salt being gently added to the room. The decorated cave was extremely well done and certainly gives the feeling that you are indeed in a salt cave.
Then onto the shared salt cave which allows up to 7 people to have the salt experience. This cave was a beautiful relaxing space, larger than the private caves with plenty of room for sharing with others.
Then on to the children’s cave. This has me very excited as health and wellbeing is just as important for children as it is for adults, in fact, it is even more important as it starts them on a journey of prevention rather than cure. Their developing bodies, to be nurtured and looked after will put them, I believe to a greater advantage of staying healthy in the future. This cave was a lovely space, kitted out for children to either ‘play’ or ‘chill’ whilst receiving the therapy (without even knowing!!)
Me and Jenni, were very excited about the visit to Health Booster LTD. I like to clear my head and be in the present with an open mind. I believe I am quite in tune with my body and so believed I would just ‘feel’ instead of think. We then went on to have an hour therapy session in the salt cave. The ambience of low light and soft LED’s certainly allowed us to relax (we would probably have relaxed more if we didn’t keep blethering!) The hour was perfect for us. When I came out of the cave, I felt a feeling of ‘something’ happening in my chest, the feeling like you’re congested and have a cold and I was flushed in the cheeks (as you can see in the photo). I wasn’t hot and immediately knew this was some type of clear out, a detox of some description. I had a fabulous night sleep, refreshed and woke up feeling a lot clearer in my lungs the next day.
The history of the salt cave and its therapeutic affects was first noticed back in the 19th Century when a Polish physician discovered that workers in the salt mine were having far less respiratory problems than other people. Since then, salt caves are regularly used and found easily within Eastern Europe. Now we have our own in East Kilbride!
